My Pilates Vision For You

my pilates vision for you Jan 10, 2021
The years are rolling by and it's important to maintain your health & fitness with Pilates as you age.

When I wrote my very first post blog post & launched my online Pilates studio way back in September 2018,  I was so excited to be sharing the amazing possibilities that Pilates provides with a global audience!  It's my mission to ensure that as many people as possible practice Pilates & discover how movement can assist them to live a healthy, pain-free life & pursue their passions into their retirement years.  In that first blog post, I introduced you to an older woman who I called Eva.  I would see Eva regularly on my daily walks on her way to the local shops with a trolley.  Walking was clearly a challenge and her joints looked painful & stiff.  At every second house, Eva would stop to sit & rest on the front fence for a minute or so before continuing on.  An everyday activity like shopping had become an arduous & painful experience for her.  I haven't seen her on my walks for about a year now.  I don't know what happened to her and can only make assumptions.  I feel sad when I see people in Eva's condition & frustrated by the unnecessary suffering she endured just completing basic daily tasks that we all take for granted.

As I said in my original post, it doesn't have to be like this!  Why do we accept that old age means we are destined to a life of pain and restriction?  My vision for you is that you are able to stay, strong, fit, flexible, healthy & happy throughout the entirety of your life, but especially in your later years. Over the past 15 years, the vast majority of my clients want that vision for themselves too.  With some planning & foresight that positive vision of health & happiness can be your reality, not just a New Year wish.  So let's take a look at how you can ensure a long happy life with Pilates.

Prepare for a Healthy Life with Pilates Now

Ageing can be difficult if you don't plan for it & there is evidence all around us of people who are struggling with multiple health issues who have lost their quality of life.  With some foresight & planning, the positive vision of heath I mentioned above could be your reality.  While it's never too late to start Pilates, the old saying, there is no time like the present, couldn't be more appropriate when it comes to starting your training.  The sooner you begin, the sooner you will start experiencing all the wonderful benefits in your own life.  Pilates helps to future proof you against any unexpected health issues or surgery that may come your way.  If you are already in excellent condition prior to anything unexpected occurring,  this training increases your ability to recover so much quicker & easier.  If you are neglecting your health in other areas such as a poor diet, lack of self-care or inadequate sleep for example re-assess this too.  This is like a ticking time bomb, that will eventually explode.  Diffuse that bomb now, make the necessary changes and invest in your own health for the present and the future.  In your later years, you will be so grateful that you did!

Consistency is Key

"I accumulated small but consistent habits that ultimately led to results that were unimaginable when I started," says James Clear in his book "Atomic Habits."  Small consistent habits lead to unimaginable results. Sounds too good to be true, doesn't it?  The good news is that it is true.  JS Mind Body Pilates, my online Pilates studio was created around this exact theory.  Most of the videos are between 10 to 15 minutes in duration, so it's easy to practice Pilates in small manageable sessions of 10, 15 or 20 minutes on a daily basis and achieve amazing results. Of course, you can choose to do longer sessions less frequently, but the majority of my members find scheduling short daily sessions, easy to slot into their day, enjoyable and highly effective in achieving their goals.  If you would like to experience the same benefits too, sign up to take the free 10 day trial now and start your Pilates journey right away.  Think of it as making small daily deposits into your bank account & over time this will add up to a significant nest egg.  It's the same with Pilates, small daily practice sessions over time add up to a strong, flexible, healthy body & mind.

Pilates Cater to All Limitations

If you are already dealing with challenging health issues, it's even more important to start improving the quality of your life for the present but especially for your future. Many of my members have issues such as Multiple Sclerosis, Osteoporosis, Lumbar Disc Issues & Rheumatoid Arthritis to name a few examples, but you certainly wouldn't know this if you met them. They are all managing their conditions & Pilates plays a huge role in this.  Some people mistakenly believe that Pilates is not for them because of their health issues but the reverse is true.  The importance of establishing an effective Pilates practice is even more essential to ensure you a good quality of life in your later years.  Whatever your situation, Pilates can assist you to improve it. The sooner you start your preparation the better!

Look For Positive Role Models

Many of my clients in their 60s & 70s are stronger & fitter than they were in their younger years, live active lifestyles & are inspirational to others.  If they are faced with health challenges, they have the physical & mental resources to overcome them.  Pre Covid-19, they enjoyed challenging walks & treks across various countries around the world, open water & ocean swims as well as jazz & tap dancing classes.  Some are active grandparents who can happily & safely engage in physically boisterous games with their multiple grandchildren for hours on end.  Either way, they are constantly challenging themselves in their Pilates training both physically & mentally & this translates to  wonderful & memorable retirement years that some people can only dream about.  If you scroll back through my blog posts you will find many of their incredible stories which serve as a constant reminder of what is possible with Pilates and what should be considered normal.  That is my vision for everyone, but especially for you.  Sadly, Eva will never know a retirement like this, but I'm assuming she wasn't aware of Pilates & taking care of her own health & fitness.  It's too late for Eva, but it's not too late for you.
If Pilates is not already part of your daily routine, I urge you to take the free 10 day trial now for JS Mind Body Pilates online.  Your future self will thank you!
