Reconnect With Your Feet: Fresh Inspiration from a Pilates Workshop
Nov 16, 2025
Last weekend, I attended an online Pilates workshop on plyometrics. If that word is new to you, you’re not alone! Plyometrics is all about quick, explosive movements—like squat jumps or box jumps—that build power and speed. Brilliant for athletes, but not necessarily something most of my clients need to practise. What really struck me, though, were the foot and lower-leg assessments and strengthening options we explored to make this type of work safe. They reminded me just how crucial healthy foot mechanics are for moving without pain. Our feet are amazingly complex, built to absorb shock and adapt to the ground beneath us. However, when they’re not functioning properly, it often manifests in our knees, hips, and back.
If you’re dealing with foot pain or want to understand how the feet influence the rest of the body, you may find my earlier blog posts helpful. They cover common foot issues, Pilates for foot pain, and two highly effective exercises to strengthen your intrinsic foot muscles and release tight fascia. You can read them here:
If you are in pain, I wrote my book MOVE FREE FROM PAIN for you. Learn how everything is connected in your body and how to use the mind-body connection of Pilates to release old movement patterns that are no longer serving you and make positive change. Be inspired by real stories of my clients who have overcome their pain through Pilates and gone on to achieve goals they had previously thought were impossible. Our feet are our foundation, and readers of my book have access to 6 free videos, including the foot-strengthening video "One Step Closer to Pain-Free," so you can start your journey to pain-free living right away.
If you have any questions or are ready to start Pilates, email me at [email protected] . Alternatively, you can book an Initial Assessment with me here or take the free 10 day trial of JS Mind Body Pilates, my online studio, which is a library of on-demand videos, and start immediately. It would be my pleasure to assist you on your Pilates journey to pain-free living!
